arubioAntônio Pereira Alves Filho (Arubio)
Co-founder and Coordinator of Capoeira Angola School Project - Broadening Horizons Program

Arúbio was born in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil in 1977 and has lived near Jardim Canadá since 2006. He has practiced capoeira for more than 24 years and is also a trained chef from SENAC. Arúbio is co-founder of Casa do Jardim and, since the beginning, has been the teacher of capoeira classes.

Why do you like being a part of the CJ team?

“Because I am doing something that I like: practicing and teaching capoeira to children. This has great results: friendship among them, motor and physical coordination, personal growth and discovery of musical abilities.”

What impact do you think CJ is making in Jardim Canadá?

“Access to culture, education and social inclusion. Greater learning. It offers security for the children because they won’t be in the street. And access to nutritious foods. One little boy really touched me. He has been at CJ since the beginning. He used to come bare-footed, dirty, no shirt and a dirty nose. It took some time for him to change, but now he arrives clean and well groomed. He takes care of himself now.”
