Maria Antônia das Graças
Learning to Learn Project Coordinator - Broadening Horizons Program

Maria Antônia was born in Florália, Minas Gerais, Brazil in 1955 and has lived in Jardim Canadá since 1987. After completing a teacher’s certificate In 1978, she became the sole teacher and director of the first municipal school in Jardim Canadá, called the Little Wooden Schoolhouse. In 2003, Maria Antônia retired as a teacher from the Benvinda Pinto Rocha Municipal School. She was then invited in September 2008 to teach at Casa do Jardim and today she is the Teacher of Learning to Learn, offering school support in the areas of reading, math and writing to the children of her community.

Why do you like being a part of the CJ team?

“I have learned a lot here, how to work with children in a different way than in traditional schools. I have acquired much experience (here).”

What impact do you think CJ is making in Jardim Canadá?

“Teaching the children for a better society (tomorrow). Respecting their rights and limitations. Giving opportunities to all of them.”
